Hi! My name is Narissa and I am an aspiring Software Engineer. My journey to becoming a Software Engineer is non-linear. I started studying Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at New York University because I have a passion for engineering and problem-solving. I knew early on that Chemical Engineering wasn't where my interest was. From that point, I decided to explore my passion for life science and changed my major to Neuroscience on the pre-medical track. I thought my real desire was to go to medical school and become a doctor, but after working in a variety of healthcare settings, I began to be more aware of the fact that so many patients do not get adequate healthcare, especially folks in Black and Brown communities. I decided to revert to my engineering roots to help in the effort to solve the systemic problems related to healthcare inequality and racial injustice. Software engineering gives me the resources to challenge the systems that are in place and address unmet needs in communities that I hold close to my heart. When I'm not coding, I enjoy yoga, watercolor painting, ceramics, cooking, and interior design.
